K-Pop World Highlight: MTV EMA 2013 Best Korea Award, Do The Nominees Deserve To Be On The List?

The MTV Europe Music Awards has been one of the most prestigious awards giving body since it gives an honour to all the music artists around the globe. With five major categories divided in different sub-categories, MTV EMA Worldwide Act for this year has been broken down into 36 sub-categories including the newly added Best Japan Act, Best Taiwan Act, Best Hongkong/China Act and Best Korea Act, which were broken down into the countries' genre and not just the regions alone.

However, with the honour of being nominated in the said music award, the nominees have surprised all K-pop fans around the globe thus, making them wonder on how MTV got to the conclusion of nominating them in the Best Korea Act Category.

Let's get to know the groups and how they did this year.

First nominee on the list is B.A.P, short for Best Absolute Perfect; the rap boy group have been famous ever since their debut on January of 2012 due to the powerful song, "Warrior." In fact, they released the album, "One Shot" last February and made its way to the Billboard World Album Chart ranking at number 1.

Next on surprisingly on the list is the boy group, Boyfriend. Though they have not been that active in Korea, the boys have been dynamically doing well in Japan with their song, "Melody Of Eyes," which was ranked 2nd place in Japan's Oricon Chart around March of this year.

Third on the nominee list is the 12-member boy group EXO. This year has been great for the group due to their release of the "XOXO" album, which also topped off the number 1 spot in the Billboard World Album Chart and having 740,000 in sales within three months of release, making it record breaking. Their single, "Growl," made its win in all four music programs in Korea four three consecutive weeks and has been in all of the music charts in Asia.

Next to be nominated and the only girl group on the list is SISTAR. The group has made a comeback earlier this year with "Give It To Me." The single has made its way to the top spot on all music charts with just a day of release, including Melon, Mnet, Olleh Music, Bugs, Soribada, Monkey3, Naver Music, Cyworld Music, and Daum Music, Gaon and US Billboard Kpop Hot 100, making it an all-kill score. All the tracks in the album had also been in the Gaon Charts and the US Billboard Kpop Chart.

Lastly to be on the list is the group, UKISS. Though its sub-unit, u-BEAT has been more active this year than the original group, UKISS has been quite popular in the concert scene, making the group appear in a performance in Manila together with other K-Pop groups titled, "Dream Fantasy Concert," at the beginning of the year. The group has also been in Malaysia for the "Formula 1 Concert," together with YG's 2NE1 and international stars, demi Lovato and Backstreet Boys on March. They also have been going around Japan for their, "U-KISS Zepp Tour 2013," making 60,000 people watch them thus making their Japanese single titled, "Alone," made its way to Japan Oricon Charts in the 4th spot.

Therefore, all the nominated groups in the MTV EMA 2013 have proved they quite deserve to be on the list. Though not all groups were constantly active in Korea, it does not mean that they are not worthy of such a prestigious award. They already have been winners by just being nominated and making themselves known in the European music scene, wherein not all idol groups have the chance to be in.
