Key Postpones Appearance In 'Bonnie And Clyde' Musical To Promote New SHINee Album 'Everybody'

SHINee singer Key might have dreams of being a stage actor, but when his band needs him, he's ready to drop everything at a moment's notice.

Less than two weeks before he was scheduled to appear in a musical theater version of "Bonnie and Clyde," the 22-year-old singer was forced to postpone a performance when SHINee's label SM Entertainment double booked him in promotions for the groups fifth EP "Everybody."

"We sincerely apologize for the unforeseen discomfort that we may have caused to everyone who has been sending interest and support for Key's musical [theater] activities," read a record label statement from Friday, according to the publication eNEWS.

"As this is due to shining SHINee's activities, we ask that fans be understanding."

M Music Art, the company producing "Bonnie and Clyde" alerted fans two weeks before opening night, that Thursday's performance had been rescheduled for Oct. 25 due to Key's departure.

"It was a decision made for the audience," M Music Art's producers explained.

"As the majority of the ticket holders were fans of Key, instead of letting the show go on with an understudy, we decided to cancel the show and reschedule it."

According to SM Entertainment, Thursday is an important day for SHINee's planned promotional blitz to promote the "Everybody" album, with South Korean television appearances on "M Countdown" for the Mnet music network, followed by a prerecording for the Seoul Broadcasting System program "Inkigayo" at 8 p.m.

Key, whose real name is Kim Ki-bum, was scheduled to begin his "Bonnie and Clyde" performance at the same time as the "Inkigayo" filming.

"Key had no choice but to delay his appearance," read a message from "Bonnie and Clyde" producers on the ticket purchasing website Interpark.

"We apologize for any inconveniences caused as this had happened because of his personal reasons. We will do our best to resolve any inconveniences that our audiences might have because of this."

Key and his bandmates will kick off their promotional activities Sunday in Seoul at the "SHINee Comeback Special in Gangnam Hallyu Festival," which will be streamed live on YouTube.

The new SHINee EP "Everybody" will be released on Oct. 14.
