Reps For Star Empire Entertainment Deny Record Label Scammed College Credit For ZE:A Band Member

Representatives for Star Empire Entertainment, the record label of the boy band ZE:A, are denying allegations from the Board of Audit and Inspection of Korea (BAI) that one of the group's nine members was given college credit for classes he didn't attend.

According to the Korean news service MBN, the unnamed member of ZE:A was awarded 30 unearned credits over three semesters, a charge his record label vehemently denies.

"No member of ZE:A has ever attended classes using illegal methods," a Star Empire representative said on Thursday.

"We've already revealed to the BAI two months ago that the members have nothing to do with this."

The BAI crackdown ensnared the ZE:A singer and three other students who were receiving credit for classes they weren't showing up for.

Instead, a professor or assistant professor would show up in their place, according to the publication Ilgan Sports.

According to an eNEWS report on Friday, the discovery of the fraudulent practice came from a probe of 19 different cyber colleges and 21 universities since June that discovered that "professors and teaching assistants have been falsely marking attendance and giving credit to students."

Yet, the Star Empire rep maintains the band member in question was not complicit in such a scandal, nor was any of the other members or anyone at the label.

"We only learned about this ourselves from the BAI's investigation. Thus, the 2010 grades received have been reissued as Fs," the Star Empire Entertainment rep said.

"It's unfortunate that the school randomly handled the attendance without the consent of students. We apologize for any discomfort this issue may have caused."

Allkpop reader Sunshine Instinct is skeptical that ZE:A's record label knew nothing about this.

"So basically the company made some sort of arrangement with the school so that the boys would pass," the ZE:A fan theorized on Friday.

"It's hardly shocking, I bet this happens all the time. To be fair, the members probably didn't have much to do with this, if anything. But I see no reason for the school to do this without any involvement from Star Empire."
