Reports suggest that HTC One users can now install the official Android 4.4 KitKat update.

After the release of the official Android 4.4 KitKat update on Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 3G, HTC has now unleashed the firmware for the HTC One Google Play addition.

As posted on NDTV Gadgets, the official Android 4.4 KRT16S update for HTC One Google Play Edition is available globally. Reportedlt, the official firmware, which is 305 MB in size, is available via Over-the-Air or OTA notification in India.

But since the official Android 4.4 KitKat update is released in phases, it may take time for HTC One GPE to be available in all the regions around the world. So to those who cannot wait for the OTA update for Android 4.4 KitKat to arrive on their region, one can opt for the manual installation process.

The Android 4.4 KitKat update brings in noticeable enhancements on the performance of the smartphone. It also features a new ART runtime. However, reports suggest that some applications still crash under it.

Those who will manually install the official Android 4.4 KitKat update should follow these pre-requisites first:

• Enable USB Debugging mode.
• Verify that the device is an HTC One Google Play Edition, since the update is intended only for the specific model of the smartphone.
• The battery level of the device should be 80 percent or higher to avoid power interruptions during the installation process.
• Create a backup of the data and settings stored on your HTC One Google Play Edition. ClockWorkMod or TWRP can be used to back up your device.

Meanwhile, it is expected that the official Android 4.4 KitKat update will also arrive for Samsung Galaxy S4 soon, beginning on the Google Play Edition. And most likely in 2014, the Android 4.4 KitKat update will reach other versions of Samsung Galaxy S4.
