NBA 2014 Free Agents - 'Lebron Come Home' Is Cleveland Cavaliers' Sales Pitch; Can Kyrie Irving Bring The King Back?

The Miami Heat visited the Cleveland Cavaliers today. It used to be a date to remember three years ago.

The loudest and longest boos in NBA History were heard in the Quicken Loans Arena three seasons ago.  Lebron James, Cleveland's superstar, exercised his free agency and left his home state's NBA team to join the Miami Heat. The Cavs fans showed their hatred by burning jerseys, Youtube Videos and comic sans font letters.

Yet, the biggest show of hatred was reserved for December 2, 2010. That day when James would walk the Cavs home floor again, this time as an adversary. Lebron was prepared though, and was unfazed.

Fast forward three years later. Lebron James is a two-time champion and about to face free agency again. His biggest suitor to pry him out of Miami is-the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Clad in Neon green "Come Home Lebron" shirts, some of the Cleveland faithful were seriously wooing Lebron back. They were more drawn to it than getting a win-which they didn't.

Lebron did notice that the boos have died down. From AP: "It's been less and less since the first time I was here. Nothing can be worse than that. I didn't feel good early on, but once I got back into the game I started feeling better. In the second quarter I got into some good rhythm. We started knocking down some shots and I got some rebounds and steals.''

James scored 28 points in an easy win over the Cavaliers, and it reminded the Cavs of the days when they had a chance to win it all behind the efforts of the game's best player.

Dion Waiters topscored for the Cavaliers with 24. Waiters is high on the trade rumor list due to his rumored conflict with Kyrie Irving, the Cavaliers new superstar.

Irving, also known as Uncle Drew in the Pepsi Max commercials, is Cleveland's biggest draw. His presence sparks hope that when summer comes up and Lebron makes a decision, his hometown will be the first pick. An Irving-Lebron team-up will be explosive on the court as well as in the media.

But to lure Lebron away from the formula that brought him two rings, it will take more than that. The easy win tonight only shows that even if Lebron switched sides, the outcome would not easily swing.

Would the shirts and billboards make a difference? ESPN asked the King before the game: "It's very flattering. Anytime you have fans who appreciate the way you play, it's humbling . I'm not talking about free agency right now. My only concern is winning a third championship."
