Tom Daley Comes Out [See Video]: Most Influential British Olympic Medalist To Acknowledge His Sexuality - ‘I'm Dating A Guy And I Couldn't Be Happier’

Tom Daley comes out on Youtube. On December 2 he the Olympic medalist posted a status on his official Facebook account with a link to his official Youtube account saying, "Got something I need to say...not been an easy decision to make, hope you can support me!"

The five-minute video was a revelation of his sexuality, which was already in question for years, but was previously denied by the British athlete.

An excerpt from BBC:

"In spring this year my life changed massively when I met someone, and they make me feel so happy, so safe and everything just feels great. That someone is a guy. It did take me by surprise a little bit. It was always in the back of my head that something like that could happen. But it wasn't until spring this year that something just clicked. It felt right and I thought 'Okay'. And my whole world changed there and then. Of course I still fancy girls but right now I'm dating a guy and I couldn't be happier."

Tom Daley coming out in the public may indeed be the most significant of all British sports personality coming out. According to Jim White from telegraph.co.uk, "Ice skater John Curry, cricketer Steven Davies and former British and Irish Lions and Wales captain Gareth Thomas, the other British sportsmen to speak openly about their homosexuality, were all known in their fields. But they had nothing of Daley's wider renown."

He became sensational when he dived during the Beijing Olympics to represent his country, back when he was still 14-years old he made the nation of Great Britain scrambling the television sets to watch and cheer for him, making him the second youngest male athlete to represent Great Britain at Olympic level.

He developed a large following when he had his TV show titled "Splash." He is being idolized not only by youngsters but by adult s as well.

"Tom Daley is an Olympic star and an inspiration, not just in Corby but around the world, according to a local diving development coach.

"All the kids want to be Tom Daley. I have little children of five at my classes and my oldest pupil is 76. Age is no barrier."

Although Tom says that he still "fancy girls" his relationship with a guy right now makes him really happy and at 19 he has become the first youngest British athlete to have ever come out.

"At just 19 he is at the peak of his sporting prowess, the youngest sportsman to come out in this country. That makes his decision to disclose one of huge significance," says Jim White.
