Mao Asada Grateful For Yuna Kim Rivalry, Beats Ashley Wagner At 2013 Grand Prix Final!

As the Olympic figure skating Grand Prix season comes to an end, Mao Asada and Yuna Kim are once again capturing media attention for their friendly rivalry.

For the 23-year-old Japanese skater, the rivalry is not proving as contentious as her die-hard fans and Yuna Kim followers make it out to be.

"We've been rivals ever since our Junior years. There was always a lot of attention on us and strong expectations of us in both Japan and South Korea," said Mao Asada to the Global News Channel.

"There were times it was tough. But I think that without YUna Kim, I would not have developed, and in fact I think this friendly rivalry gave me my motivation."

Which certainly seems to be the case this Grand Prix season. Mao Asada has won both her Grand Prix events (Skate America and NHK Trophy), and most recently, the 2013 Grand Prix Final.

Two-time U.S. national champion Ashley Wagner made a few mistakes in the Free Skate and took the bronze medal with 187.61.
