NBA Trade Rumors – Rudy Gay Confirmed To Sacramento; Raptors Will Take Expiring Contracts; Kings Get A Star As Toronto Looks Ahead

It has been confirmed, and the league only has to make it official. Rudy Gay has been traded to the Sacramento Kings.

The full trade details have Rudy Gay, Aaron Gray and Quincy Acy going to the Sacramento Kings while the Toronto Raptors will get three expiring contracts in Greivis Vazquez, Patrick Patterson, John Salmons along with Chuck Hayes. Aside from Vazquez, all three players are reserve forwards.

It's a seven-man trade, because salaries have to match. Rudy Gay is set at $17 million. He also has a player option for almost $20 million next year.

Gay was brought to Toronto by former GM Bryan Colangelo in the hopes of having a superstar. He acquired him from the Memphis Grizzlies in a three way trade with Detroit.

After Colangelo resigned, new Raptors GM Masai Ujiri has hinted on a fresh start. However, he could not do that with Gay's humongous contract on their books. Ujiri gets his wish tonight as three of the four players will be off the books at season's end.

It also means that the Toronto Raptors are giving up on the season. They may also trade other veterans like Kyle Lowry and Demar DeRozan to gain cap space and also to have a shot at a high draft pick in next year's draft. It's no secret that Toronto wants to get Canadian player Andrew Wiggins.

When asked about the trade, Raptors coach Dwayne Casey replied to ESPN: "We won't have three guys tonight. Until it's official, I can't comment on it. I don't think there's ever a good time to lose a star player. But it's something you have to roll with and live with. This is a business, this is the NBA."

The three players from their side were recalled from the lineup and will not play in their game against the LA Lakers, where Kobe Bryant is expected to return.
