Carrie Underwood's 'Sound of Music' Bad Reviews Lead Actress To Let 'Jesus Take The Wheel'; But Critics Still Have Respect For Her

Bad reviews seemed to be getting on Carrie Underwood's nerves for her live performance of the "Sound of Music" remake which aired on NBC last Thursday. But instead of lashing out, she is 'lets Jesus take the wheel.'

Carrie Underwood took to Twitter on Dec. 7 to tweet her sentiments following some of the nasty comments regarding her acting and how she was way over her head for the role of Maria Von Trapp, popularized by Julie Andrews in 1965 classic.

She tweeted: "Plain and simple: Mean people need Jesus. They will be in my prayers tonight... 1 Peter 2:1-25."

According to the New King James version, the chapter and verse that the 30-year-old singer cited in her tweet contained the passage: "Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby."

Carrie is a very religious person who describes herself as a "conservative Christian." She traced her early training in joining the choir of the First Free Will Baptist Church in rural Oklahoma.

The singer's most recent tweet was a stark contrast to the tweet she posted after the musicale: "Glory to God tonight...I couldn't be more proud. What a tough thing to pull off and we did it! I am so blessed!!!" Carrie Underwood tweeted afterwards.

One of the most vocal critics of her performance was Kym Karath, who played the original Gretl Von Trapp in the Julie Andrews' film.

After watching the show, she tweeted that she was disappointed by the special. "So far only happy with Stephen Moyer."

Kym posted another tweet: "Must admit some scenes are actually painful to watch...Love Carrie Underwood but this role is just not right for her. She is lovely her voice is beautiful but acting is wrong."

But Kym later added: "To be clear I love Carrie Underwood. Just not as Maria. She was brave to take it on. And this doesn't lessen my respect for her talent."
