Virgin Galactic space travel is expected to provide economic boost through tourism in Truth or Consequences, N.M. when it starts its operation next year.

The company founded by Sir Richard Branson is scheduled to take the passengers to space from Spaceport America next summer. The launch site is strategically located approximately 30 miles from Truth or Consequences (T or C) also near the White Sands Missile Range.

Hundreds if not thousands of new jobs will soon be available according to Truth or Consequences City Commissioner Steven Green saying, "I think there's enough business that Virgin Galactic will create, directly and indirectly, that we will all be very, very happy."

The opening of Spaceport America brought the city's tourism at its finest with all the people watching the rocket launches regularly, the Commissioner added.

The Spaceport America includes NASA in its clients lists according to its website. It is also "the world's first purpose-built commercial spaceport designed to enable affordable, efficient and effective space access and unlock the potential of space for everyone."

A seat on the famous Virgin Galactic space travel would cost $250,000 - something masses could definitely not afford, but according to the company's website, there are already 600 people who deposited for the first ever-commercial space flight.

According to City Commissioner Green, all the issues concerning Truth of Consequences' losing its small town charm is compensated by the positive economic impact it would bring to the city's tourism.

"Here you have an opportunity for a small community such as T or C to enhance itself by having an increase of visitation - of visitors - coming in," Green explained.

Truth or Consequences highly depends on the tourism for its economic growth, but Green also admitted that farming and ranching might also be depended upon.
