Cibo Matto To Release Their First Album in 15 Years; `Hotel Valentine’ Drops Next Valentine’s Day; Announce Tour and Release First Video `MFN’ (Video)

Cibo Matto are back. The New York City Avant garde music due announced that they are releasing their first new album in 15 years and that they will tour behind it. Cibo Matto will release "Hotel Valentine" on Valentine's Day 2014, the same day they will be playing a home-town show in New York. Cibo Matto also just released their first music video off the upcoming album. A song called "MFN."

Cibo Matto means crazy food in Italian. The band was formed by two Japanese women, Yuka Honda and Miho Hatori, in 1994 . Their first album, "Viva La Woman," was all about food. It produced the hits Know Your Chicken and Sugar Water. For their second album, "StereoType A," Yuka and Mihi got out of the kitchen and teamed with Sean Lennon, Timo Ellis and Duma Love to produce soulful and deeply affecting music.

Cibo Matto's new LP, "Hotel Valentine," is their first album in 15 Years and they're sharing the new "MFN" video to get us ready. "MFN" features Reggie Watts and the video is colorful and jumpy.

"Hotel Valentine" was self-produced over the past two years. The record features guest spots from Nels Cline, Glenn Kotche, Mauro Refosco of the band Atoms for Peace), Reggie Watts, and others. According to Cibo Matto's press release, "Hotel Valentine" is a 'concept album with a love story and ghosts in a hotel.'

Yuka Honda recently gave an interview about the new album and what it was like getting back together with Miho Hatori. Honda said "'Hotel Valentine' was the first song we wrote together for this album. It thus represents the genesis of our concept or story, but in a way it seems that explaining too much would prevent listeners from coming to their own conclusions about each song as well as about the whole project. Yes, there is a ghost girl, a hotel, housekeeping ladies and things happen. But they are elusive in nature. Having spent some time apart, we became more aware of our magical chemistry, our magnetic bond. We both realized we had unfinished business."

Miho Hatori added "Hotel Valentine is the cinematic bricolage of Yuka and me. Our medium is music. For me, making an album is like raising a child. We don't know what kind of person (story) they will end up to be."

Cibo Matto's Stereo Type A came out in 1999. Then the band went on hiatus, only performing a few reunion dates a couple years ago. Miho Hatori and Yuka C. Honda's Hotel Valentine comes out on February 14 via Chimera Music.

Cibo Matto will tour in support of the record.
