WestJest Christmas Miracle [Video] Gone Viral But Not Enough To Make People Switch Flights, Says Professors

WestJet Christmas miracle video was released by the Canadian airline on December 9. After it was posted on YouTube, the video immediately gone viral.

The video's goal is to reach 200,000 viewers. Once this goal is attained, the airline will be donating flights to the Ronald McDonald Christmas Charities.

The company didn't have any problem reaching its goal. Right now, the video now has over 11 million views on YouTube.

The WestJet Christmas miracle video surprised the passengers by giving them their surprised Christmas gifts that they requested right before they departed.

Passengers were shocked to find wrapped gifts instead of their luggage after they arrived at Calgary.

The video also touched the hearts of many viewers from all over the world.

The video received generally positive reviews according to Assistant Professor Tandy Thomas of the Queen's School Of Business.

According to Thomas, "What the video has done is it creates this emotional experience with the viewer, which helps create an emotional bond with WestJet, which is one of the strongest ways to help build up a strong brand."

However, when asked if the video is enough to make passenger switch airlines, Thomas and her colleague, John-Kurt Pliniussen responded with, "Typically we shop, when we travel, on price - as opposed to brand."

Pliniussen continued, "What they're trying to do is say, 'Look, if you travel, also consider the brand. Go to the WestJet site.'"

Although the ad created a strong brand for the WestJet airline, it seems that price is still the main basis as compared to brand.

Pliniussen explained, "So the purpose of the ad may not be to sell more tickets, it might be just to say, 'You know what-WestJet, we're a feel-good company.'"

Both Pliniussen and Thomas agree that when choosing airlines to travel, price is still the main game. Although, "loyalty programs" still play an important role.

Although both professors feel this way, the Christmas miracle video definitely touched the hearts of many people.

Whether or not it is a good marketing campaign, WestJet Christmas miracle video proved that Christmas is still the best holiday!
