NBA Trade Rumors – Chicago Bulls Sign DJ Augustin In Hopes To Salvage Season; Coach Thibs Will Keep Current Roster But For How Long?

As expected, Coach Tom Thibodeau will not be favorable to tanking. They will reportedly sign DJ Augustin to have a starting point guard and refuse to blow up the team.

Coach Thibs will get his chance from the Bulls front office to fight with this current roster, but how long will they wait?

The Bulls injury problem does not end with Derrick Rose. Jimmy Butler is still out and starters Luol Deng and Joakim Noah also had a DNP (did not play) in their last outing. It was probably the lowest point of the season (aside from Rose going down) when they lost to second league worst Milwaukee Bucks, 78-74.

Noah will return to the lineup against the Knicks in Madison Square Garden.in a pre-game interview with ESPN, Coach Thibs said of Noah: "I think he wants to play all the time. The swelling's gone down in his knee, or his thigh area. He feels better, so he's going to give it a shot."

The Bulls are currently at 8-11, good for eighth place in the Eastern Conference. They have gone 2-8 in their last 10 games. While DJ Augustin is a better point guard than Mike James and Marquis Teague, he is just a stopgap solution. How long will the Bulls' notoriously stingy management keep this roster which will cost them the dreaded repeater tax?

Thibodeau is one of the best coaches in the league, if not the best already. He has proven his resilience through almost two seasons of injury riddled rosters aside from losing their best player. But he is not a miracle worker.

The Bulls can still attain their "win now" status. Trading Luol Deng and the Charlotte draft pick (top 10 protected for 2014) or their own pick can get them a star. Look towards teams making a 'fire sale'-Toronto or Philadelphia, or 2010 rookies not given extensions: Utah's Gordon Hayward and Detroit's Greg Monroe would be welcome additions for the Rose comeback/Nikola Mirotic welcome party.
