Golden State Warriors Standings - Are They The Nets Of The West? Promising Season Has Disappointing Start

The Golden State Warriors had a breakthrough in the playoffs last season. They went all the way to the Conference semifinals against the San Antonio Spurs. After such a breakthrough and a star acquisition, expectations will only get higher.

In last season's incredible playoff run, Warriors point guard cemented his place among the elite. Despite losing to the San Antonio Spurs, they gave them the best fight in the West as the Spurs swept their other two series.

The impression they made was with the Denver Nuggets, whom they upset in the first round as a 6th seed. It was Denver's best record in years, and it hurt to see it slip away. Eventually, head coach George Karl of the Nuggets was fired.

Stephen Curry was anointed as the next big star of the NBA after setting records for three point shots in a season. Now, he is undoubtedly a marked man. Also, the Golden State Warriors made the necessary salary dumps to acquire the second best free agent last summer-Andre Iguodala. It seemed like the best consolation prize when the Warriors lost out in the Howard Sweepstakes.

Thus, the Warriors had no excuse not to become a better team. They are not really losing like the Brooklyn Nets, but they are only in 8th place in the cutthroat Western Conference. No excuses, that is a disappointment.

Speaking to SF Gate, Stephen Curry talked about their rocky start after they lost to the Charlotte Bobcats.

"It's still early in the season, but this one stings pretty much worse than one has stung in a while."  He had MVP numbers:  43 points to go with nine assists, six rebounds and two blocked shots.

The 115-111 loss to the Bobcats was a low point, as Charlotte was always perceived as an also-ran. However, they are an improved team this season, so the loss is not as bad as it seems.

Yet, the Warriors should not be complacent, and of all people, they know that something needs to improve. This team was built to win now, as they will have free agent issues next summer.
