The Miami Heat are the defending champions in the NBA. It did not come easy for them, but they are willing to take the price. The Larry O’ Brien Trophy may be shiny, but the hands that carry it are often dirty.

Dwyane Wade knows this only too well. During Grantland’s NBA Preview for the Heat, they played a video montage of Dwyane Wade’s dirty plays, to which Bill Simmons remarked “Dwyane Wade should be in jail.”

While Wade has somewhat mellowed down this season (so far), Miami will still not wear the good guy shoes this season. Mario Chalmers, or as their opponents are calling him, “Cheap Shot Chalmers” is taking on the big men, no less.

Earlier this season Chalmers has been fined $ 15,000 on November 7 for ramming his forearm on Blake Griffin’s throat. Then, on November 15, he was suspended one game for striking Dirk Nowitzki in the face.

From the Sun Sentinel, after being informed of the suspension, Chalmers makes an appeal: "I've never been a dirty player. It's tough especially when someone is grabbing your arm like Dalembert was. I guess I just got to let him hold my arm until he lets me free. I guess that's the new thing I've got to do. I just play basketball."

His Heat teammate Udonis Haslem gives him sagely advice. "Coming from a repeat [flagrant foul] offender, I told him it's not the worst thing in the world. Obviously, everyone knows you're not a dirty payer, everybody knows you're not a malicious guy. It's unfortunate. The only thing you can do now is put it behind you."

Chalmers would receive a lot of that advice in the locker room with Wade, Haslem and Chris Andersen. While he looked remorseful with Dirk, subsequent skirmishes proved that he seems to be ‘over it.’ He had another ‘encounter’ with Joakim Noah.

In their rematch against the Indiana Pacers, Chalmers gave a WWE style clothesline from behind on no less than Roy Hibbert, the Pacers gargantuan center. Hibbert even got a bloody nose. Can’t wait for the next Pacers-Heat rematch!
