The 16-13-3 Maple Leafs are coming off a 3-1 loss vs the L.A. Kings last night and will travel to St. Louis vs the 20-6-3 Blues. St. Louis is a dominant 12-2-2 at home and averages 3.34 GPG while the Maple Leafs have allowed eight goals in their last two games, which were both losses. Toronto gave up two goals in the final 11 minutes and has been outscored 15-3 in the final periods of its last 11 games.
"They're down because we had so many opportunities, so many offensive chances," coach Randy Carlyle told ESPN.com. "If we continue to apply that type of work ethic, we'll win our share of games, but it's like pushing a snowball. Every time you lose, it gets bigger."
The Blues have won two of three after Kevin Shattenkirk scored the tiebreaking goal with 3:02 remaining in Tuesday's 2-1 victory in Winnipeg vs the Jets.
"We outfought for three pucks just to get that opportunity, which is what happened for the whole third period, which was really impressive," coach Ken Hitchcock said. "As the game wore on, our confidence came back to fight for pucks and to battle."
Brian Elliot will be between the pipes for St. Louis as he will appear in his third straight game and make his second consecutive start after relieving Halak early in a loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday and then being the winning goalie against the Jets.
"I really like the way we fought," coach Ken Hitchcock told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "As the game wore on, our confidence came back to fight for pucks and battle. I thought the debris from what's happened here in the last week or so started to eliminate. We just started to get our spirit back and really battle."
