Michael Jordan's Flu Game Shoes Rake In $104,765 In An Auction; Sets New Record

The flu game, which happened during the Game 5 of the 1997 NBA Finals, is one of the greatest moments in Michael Jordan's basketball career and the whole league. Battling a flu that almost made him miss the game, Jordan was still able to score 38 points and helped his team seal the important road win. Fans who saw the game live think that they are among the luckiest basketball fans in the world for having witnessed such epic game.

But for a Michael Jordan fan who joined and won an auction held by Gray Flannel Auctions, witnessing the game live is not enough for him to claim that he came close to a basketball God. He felt closer to the G.O.A.T. by winning Jordan's flu games shoes at a whopping price of $104,765.

The bidder, whose details are not yet made public, officially got his hands on such kicks after its previous owner, Preston Truman, decided that he cannot keep them anymore in his bank deposit.

According to Truman, Jordan gave the pair of shoes to him right after the Flu Game. He said the NBA legend and current Charlotte Bobcats owner trusted him with the shoes after he regularly brought the then Chicago player apple sauce even though he wasn't in an eating mood.

The $104,765 final price is said to be the highest amount paid for a pair of game-used shoes. It beat the $31,070 price paid by an anonymous bidder for Jordan's rookie season shoes.

Truman believes that his item garnered attention from a number of collectors because of a photo showing Jordan signing the shoes.

"I think my photo that Jordan's bodyguard took with me standing there drove up the price because buyers didn't have to worry if they were real," Truman told ESPN.com.

Truman said that he will use the proceeds of the auction to finance his kids' education and pay for his car.
