NBA Trade Rumors – Jeremy Lin Being Shopped; Houston Rockets Do Not See ‘Linsanity’ As Future Point Guard; Will Knicks Take Him Back?

"Linsanity" is truly over. While the Asian star is injured, the revelation that the Houston Rockets actually never stopped shopping him may mean that his comeback will be in a different uniform.

Several teams are having point guard shortages, while the Rockets are doing well with Aaron Brooks and Patrick Beverley. There would be no point in paying Jeremy Lin $15 million (because of the 'poison pill' contract they used to pry him away from the New York Knicks) in his last year, which is two years too long as far as GM Daryl Morey is concerned. Investing that much money on a very small sample size (Linsanity lasted less than 20 games) can prove fatal for a team.

From a radio telecast, Alan Hahn of ESPN mentioned:

"And I know this is blasphemy, but I'm telling you right now: Jeremy Lin could also be on his way out of Houston. If they can find a taker for him and that contract ... like I said from what I heard, I've talked to some GM's from around the league, there is a strong feeling that if the Rockets can find a taker, they will definitely move Jeremy Lin, that's for sure."

Ironically, one team with a heavy crisis for point guards is the New York Knicks themselves. But the Knicks do not have any assets to offer, except maybe Carmelo Anthony.

If the allegation is true, that means the Rockets could not find a trade partner that would take Lin alone. They may have to package him in a deal, perhaps with fellow poison pill acquisition Omer Asik. With that much money involved with the two of them, the Rockets may have to take a bad contract along with a useful asset in order to match salaries.

The Lakers is viable option. However, they only have Pau Gasol's expiring contract as a trade chip. They cannot trade their 2014 first round pick since they have already traded their 2015 first round pick. Also, why would the Lakers help them out, after they nabbed Dwight Howard? The outrageous idea is trading them to the Knicks, for Amare Stoudemire's contract. But the idea was to gain more cap space now. Lin and Asik's deal expires at the same time with Amare's. Thus, it's pointless.

The possibility is trading Lin and Asik for Thaddeus Young and Spencer Hawes-two players who were candidates for Omer Asik. The Sixers could keep Lin in the freezer and lose two productive players for a defensive center they can use in the future. Good recipe for tanking.
