Barbara Walters Accused Of Using Popes Francis' Controversial' Comments For Political Gains

After Fox News' Megyn Kelly and her controversial 'White Santa' comments, another broadcaster from another big time network has drawn the ire of the public because of her disputatious comment about a religious matter.

Award-winning Barbara Walters of ABC's Today and The View is in hot water for what critics say 'taking advantage' of the comments made by Pope Francis on controversial social issues. It is an open secret in the US that Walters is an avid supporter of Hillary Clinton who is expected to run for presidency in 2016 and for some people, she is using Pope Francis whom she included in her Top 10 Most fascinating People of the Year list. The 84-year old TV personality's was also questioned for not having any Republicans, the opposite of Clinton's Democratic party.

The veteran journalist, who already revealed that she will retire on May next year, praised the newly-appointed Pope for loosening his stance on abortion and homosexuality, adding that the "church is returning to its roots."

This comment made by Walters came when she announced her top 10 Most Fascinating People of 2013. The list includes Hillary Clinton (at number 1), Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Lawrence, cast of reality show Duck Dynasty, whistleblower Edward Snowden and "Good Morning America" co-host Robin Roberts, long-distance swimmer Diana Nyad, Duchess Kate and Prince William's baby Prince George, and Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.

Town Hall, a commentary and news portal, claimed that "Walters and others continue to take advantage of some of the pope's more ambiguous remarks." The website thinks that Walters is using Pope Francis for "their own agenda."

Earlier this month, Walters was also condemned for saying that politicians don't need a Bible when taking their oath.

She said "most presidents swear on a Bible before taking office, even though we have the separation between church and state," insisting that the "basic tenet in America is the separation."
