J.K. Rowling Will Bring Her Magic to the Stage; Will Co-Produce Harry Potter Play in London; Can She Ever Get Away From Hogwarts?

J K Rowling will never get away from Harry Potter. When she announced that she was going to kill off the beloved character no less than famous authors Stephen King and Amy Tan went to her doorstep begging her not to kill of Hogwart's most famous alumnus. Rowling didn't. Harry Potter lived. And now J.K. Rowling is bring Harry to the stage.

On Dec. 20, J.K. Rowling announced that she is developing a play about the life of Harry Potter before the owls brought the letters saying he was accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Rowling will co-produce the play, along with veteran British theater producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender. Rowling will not write the script, but she will collaborate with a playwrite. The writer and director have not been named.

In a statement, Rowling said the stage show will "explore the previously untold story of Harry's early years as an orphan and outcast. Over the years I have received countless approaches about turning Harry Potter into a theatrical production, but Sonia and Colin's vision was the only one that really made sense to me, and which had the sensitivity, intensity and intimacy I thought appropriate for bringing Harry's story to the stage."
