World’s Worst Airports 2013: 18-Month Old Baby Including A Mayor And His Wife Died In A Shooting Incident At NAIA Terminal 3 In Philippines

Ninoy Aquino International Airport in the Philippines was named world's worst airport in 2013 for the second time in a row based on votes made at Sleepingairports.net - an interactive website, which collects information from reviewers globally.

Voters who were asked about what they consider as the worst airport in the world based on over-all experience, and they voted for NAIA Terminal 1. The same airport ranked number one for worst airport for sleeping, last year.

Terminal 1 is the oldest of NAIA's four passenger terminals, built 32 years ago. However, the airport management is already trying to decongest the terminal by transferring approximately three million passengers a year to the newer Terminal 3.

With that said, NAIA Terminal 3 is expected to become the main airport hence it's the newest and the largest among the four.

Unfortunately, a shooting incident happened last Friday, which left an 18-month old baby dead along with a town mayor in Zamboanga del Sur, his wife and another relative. Four more others were injured from an ambush intended for the mayor.

The assassins waited for the mayor and his party at Terminal 3's arrival area before 12 noon last Friday. Manila International Airport Authority general manager Angel Honrado announced that the mayor and his wife arrived from a Cebu Pacific flight coming from Zamboanga at around 9 a.m.

Two gunmen, who are now identified, were riding a motorcycle fired at the victims as soon as they stepped out from the arrival area.

The perpetrators in the shooting incident of Mayor Ukol Talumpa and three others are now identified, but Task Force Talumpa Head Superintendent Billy Beltran refused to name the killers.

"We have already identified three suspects. One of them was the gunman while the other two served as the lookout," Talumpa announced in Filipino language over an interview with Inquirer Radio 990AM  on Monday .

"We already have a cartographic sketch to help us in the arrest of the suspects," he continued.

The public is now questioning the safety and security of NAIA as it has been reported that there are no CCTV cameras available on the scene. The management is also being questioned as how the perpetrators have managed to enter the airport premises knowing that they are carrying .45 caliber pistol.

As of press time, the authorities are now relying from the testimonies of the eyewitnesses to be able to solve the case, since the premise did not have a closed security camera.

How will this unfortunate incident affect the reviews of NAIA, well it's obvious that it already has a bad reputation and to add insult to injury an incident like this could very well bring the country's airport to yet another embarrassing situation.
