Hugh Jackman Won’t Be Straitjacketed by Houdini; Vanishes from Broadway Musical; Nice Way of Saying It Sucked Without Sorkin?

Hugh Jackman pulled a Houdini on Broadway. Jackheads will miss his latest sleight of hand as Jackman pulls a disappearing act from the Broadway musical "Houdini."

Producers of eagerly anticipated 2014 Broadway musical about escape artist supreme Harry Houdini confirmed that Hugh Jackman, the Sexiest Man Alive in 2008, according to People magazine, didn't feel the magic. Hugh withdrew from the play.

In a statement, Jackman said "I have greatly enjoyed the collaborative process on Houdini. Ultimately, though, I wasn't able to commit to the time this role will require."

The Tony winning Wolverine star has no time? Is that a nice way of saying the show sucks?

Jackman contined "I have tremendous respect and admiration for the creative team and I wish everyone the best. I know they're well on their way to making something extraordinary."

Jackman signed on to star in Houdini in January 2012 when it was being written by Aaron Sorkin. Sorkin is an Oscar and Emmy best known for "The Social Network," "The West Wing," and HBO's "The Newsroom." Then Sorkin pulled out and playwright David Ives, who wrote "Venus in Fur," took over book. The score was going to be written by Stephen Schwartz, who wrote music for "Pippin."

It may have been that Jackman thought he was under-reaching. Jackman, at six foot two inches, would tower of Harry Houdini, who's real name was Erik Weisz, who stood five foot six inches on his toes.

But Houdini will continue without its box office draw.  In a statement producer Scott Sanders said "Hugh has been terrific to have on this part of the journey. We will continue to move forward with our remarkable creative team, as they craft this ambitious new musical."
