Chinese Media Says Top Japanese Official Is Paying Homage To Devils; Asian Countries In Word War Due To Tokyo’s ‘Provocative Militarism’

Chinese media fired shots against the government of Japan, saying Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is paying homage to "devils." This comment was made after Abe visited the Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo. This shrine was built to shelter dead Japanese leaders who were convicted as war criminals by an Allied tribunal after World War Two.

China, as well as South Korea - both countries occupied by Tokyo during the World War 2 - were furious about the Japanese leader's actions.

One Chinese newspapers' editorial released a post with the title "Abe's paying homage to the devils makes people outraged."

It said:

"On one hand, Abe is paying homage to war criminals, and on the other hand, he talks about improving relations with China, South Korea and other countries," the newspaper said. "It is simply a sham, a mouthful of lies.

"Today, the Chinese people have the ability to defend peace and they have a greater ability to stop all provocative militarism."

China's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying also reacted on Abe's visit at the shrine. She asked:

"How can a person who is not willing to face up to their own history, to facts, win the trust of the international community or cause people to believe he has a role to play in maintaining regional and global peace and stability?"

International newspaper Global Times urged China to shut its doors for Abe along with other Japanese officials who paid visit at the Yasukuni Shrine. The paper also added that China's failure to act on this controversy will make them look like a 'paper tiger' in the eyes of the rest of the world.

As for the Chinese people, more than 70% of the public who responded in a survey in Chinese microblogging site Weibo said that they would support a boycott of Japanese goods as sympathy to their government.
