Pacquiao – Mayweather Fight – Both Fighters Have No Official Opponents Yet; Will The ‘Fight Of The Century’ Happen Sooner Than We Think?

The year is about to end, but the two scheduled fights for both Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr have no opponents yet. Will the boxing gods finally listen and have them fight each other?

Manny Pacquiao's fight is scheduled on April 12 but there is still no foe in sight as "Pacquiao - Marquez 5" has been shot down. From the LA Times, the statements by Pacman's manager Michael Koncz:

"Marquez will never fight us again. Why would he? He has bragging rights and all the money he wants."

Koncz also addressed the "Christmas card" that Mayweather posted on Twitter as well as his own Facebook.

"At least Floyd's thinking of us in some way. I smiled when I saw it last
night and I'll show it to Manny when I get to the Philippines."

Apparently, Manny has internet access, too. He already made his reaction on the Philippine Daily Inquirer: "I'm thanking Floyd Mayweather that he has not forgotten me. I'm glad that he is still thinking of me." Pacman takes the high road and chose not to tweet any retaliatory memes (although his numerous fans were happy to do that for him).

The heightened animosity towards Pacquiao actually affirms what Koncz and Pacquiao said-Mayweather is feeling the pressure of fighting Pacquiao.

At this point in the welterweight division, there are no other worthy opponents that Mayweather has yet to fight. He has already shot down Amir Khan, with the Pay-per-view interest way below his expectations.

ESPN's Dan Rafael made his series on the "12 fights" that boxing fans want to see next year (or at all). This Pacquiao-Mayweather fight was an easy number one.

He writes: "And although it will never, ever be what it should have been -- the two best facing off at their best in 2010 -- it's still the biggest fight boxing has to offer, by far.

But that hasn't made a difference for the past several years and, sadly, doesn't appear to mean anything now, either, as both fighters remain as far apart as ever.

Pacquiao is due to fight April 12 and Mayweather on May 3. Neither has formally announced his opponent, but one thing you can take to the bank: They won't be fighting each other. And for all of boxing, that is a shame."

He also shared an interesting bit of trivia: The last time boxing had a pound for pound king other than Pacquiao or Mayweather was way back in 2004. That was the retired Bernard Hopkins.

This fight has to happen!
