Carly Rae Jepson Has New Shoes To Fill; Call Me Maybe Singer Heads to Broadway to Star in Cinderella

Carly Rae Jepsen is headed to Broadway to take over the role of Cinderella in  "Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella."


Canadian singer-songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen has always wanted to be on Broadway. The Grammy-nominated pop singer has been doing musical theater since she was in high school. Carly Rae Jepson will finally get to see that dream come true as she gets ready to make her debut on Broadway. Carly Rae Jepsen starred in Annie, The Wiz and Grease before attending the Canadian College of Performing Arts.


The Hollywood Reporter reported that Carly Rae Jepsen, best known for her pop hits like "Call Me Maybe" will make her Broadway debut in "Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella."


Carly Rae Jepson recently gushed "Broadway has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl and I look forward to working with this incredibly talented cast to tell this classic tale."


Beginning on Feb. 4. Jepsen will star in the production for three months. She will be joined by Fran Drescher, best known for her role in the TV sitcom "The Nanny." Drescher will be playing Cinderella's stepmother, Madame.


Carly Rae Jepson will be replacing Laura Osnes, who was nominated for a Tony nomination for her stage performance. This year Cindarella earned nine Tony nominations. Osnes is exiting the show after a yearlong run.
The role of Cinderella was originated by Julie Andrews in the first TV musical staging of the play in 1957.

Carly Rae Jepson started doing musical theater performances when she was in high school. Earlier this year Jepsen finished her first headline tour of the U.S.


The current production was adapted by the playwright Douglas Carter Beane.
