Colorado Shooting Victim's Father Forgives Suspect; Says Shooter "Didn't Know What He Was Doing"

"My wife and I forgive Karl Pierson for what he did. We would ask all of you here and all of you watching to forgive Karl Pierson. He didn't know what he was doing."

This is what Michael Davis said of the Colorado high school shooting suspect who killed her daughter, Claire.

Claire, 17, was shot in the face by Pierson who entered the Arapahoe County High School with the intent of killing his teacher but ended up shooting Michael's daughter and another student who fortunately survived.

When some police officers insisted that they will not use the suspect's name and instead refer to him as murderer, Mr. Davis disapproved.

"The young man that shot Claire had a name. His name was Karl Pierson."

He added that the suspect only "allowed himself to become filled with anger, rage and hatred. ... The fact is that Karl was so blinded by his emotions he didn't know what he was doing."

Pierson, who also died in the incident due to self-inflicted wounds, terrorized the whole of Colorado after entering the school 'through the doors" carrying a shotgun, more than 125 shotgun shells, a machete and three homemade firebombs." Investigators said his motive was to get revenge on one of his teachers who kicked him out of a speech and debate team for disciplinary action.

The young Davis' funeral took place Saturday and one of the pallbearers, whom the Davis family personally requested, is James Englert, a sheriff's deputy assigned to the school who help prevent more bloodshed by confronting the suspect.

"James Englert is a hero, there's no question. James responded heroically and he saved lives." Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said.

The National Western Livestock Show complex in Denver has started a memorial service for Claire Davis who represented her school in an equestrian event last year and was supposed to join again this 2014.

Students, faculty, and some friends also got tattoos to remember Davis while Gov. John Hickenlooper ordered flags to be flown at half-staff Wednesday to honor the teenage girl.
