Bruno Mars Music Showcases Penchant For Janet Jackson? 'Treasure' Singer No. 1 Target Of Piracy?

Looks like Bruno Mars has a penchant for Janet Jackson as he performed one of the pop star's signature song "That's The Way Love Goes" during a show in Las Vegas.

The performance "was punctuated by loads and loads of banter, PopCrush.com reported, adding that it's quite an improvised rendition of Michael Jackson's sister's 1993 smash 'That's the Way Love Goes.'"

The single was part of Janet's fifth studio album and became her biggest number one single in the U.S. after maintaining a top spot at the Billboard Hot 100 for two months. She also won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Song.

While the Internet agrees that Bruno Mars seems to have improved on the song, one thing that Janet Jackson has over the "Treasure" crooner, however, is that she ruled the airwaves before piracy.

Bruno Mars holds the distinction of being the most illegally downloaded artist of 2013, said Musicmetric, a data analysis company.

With 5.8 million downloads, Mars edged out Rihanna's 5.4 million. The two Grammy winners were on top of the heap as Daft Punk was way below with 4.2 million downloads, while Justin Timberlake's songs were downloaded 3.9 million. Flo Rida was at fifth place with 3.5 million downloads, Billboard reported.

The numbers are collected using the data from the albums and tracks downloaded via BitTorrent, the file sharing site. Musicmetric said that 7 in 10 "pirates" download whole albums of artists while 3 in 10 download single tracks.

It's not all bad for Bruno Mars, however, as he also reaped from digital sales through the 641,000 album downloads in the U.S., according to figures up to December 22, said Nielsen SoundScan.

"'Unorthodox Jukebox," released in December 2012, accounted for 514,000 digital album sales while "Doo-Wops & Hooligans," from October 2010, accounted for another 126,000," Billboard said.

Illegal downloads have also been on a decline, Billboard said quoting Musicmetric EVP Daniel Savage.

"Previous research that we've done indicates that the increased availability of music via streaming is a contributing factor," Savage said.
