Yuna Kim Dominates Nationals As Mao Asada Slips To Third [VIDEOS]: Will Olympic Champion Gain Second Gold At 2014 Sochi?

With their respective national championships behind them, the Yuna Kim, Mao Asada rivalry may be more divisive than ever before.

Recently, Yuna Kim skated away with her sixth non-consecutive Korean national title, scoring less than a point away (227.86) from her world record score achieved at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics (228.56).

Although her performance was not perfect, Yuna Kim later performed a perfect double axel during the medal ceremony after popping her final jump during competition.

While Yuna Kim appears well on her way to another Olympic medal, her main rival Mao Asada has seen better days at the Japanese National Championships.

After being the Japanese national champion for the past two years, Mao Asada slipped to third behind Akiko Suzuki and Kanako Murakami after a disastrous free skate. For the first time this Olympic season, Mao Asada failed to score over 200 points, instead settling for 199.50.

While other medal contenders are also in play (AshleyWagner, Carolina Kostner, Julia Lipnitskaya), the rivalry between Yuna Kim and Mao Asada will once again be the center story as the 2014 Sochi Olympics approaches.

Will Yuna Kim once again skate away with the gold medal, or will Mao Asada recover in time and complete her planned triple axels?
