Michael Bay Appearance at CES 2014 Highlighted by Meltdown; Samsung’s Tech Glitch Foils `Transformer’ Director [Video]

Michael Bay CES 2014 Meltdown Samsung: Those witty catchphrases that jump off action heroes tongues in times of crisis are scripted. 'Transformers' Director Michael Bay was foiled by technology at an event celebrating technology, while celebrating a company at the forefront of cutting-edge technology.

Michael Bay was giving a speech at CES 2014 when he suffered a minor meltdown. During a Samsung news conference touting the company's new curved HDTVs, Michael's teleprompter blipped out, leaving Bay stumbling for lines and finally storming off stage. It was like an "Amityville Horror" for the director and the audience.

Technical difficulties sideswiped Michael Bay while he was giving a speech at a Samsung CES event in Las Vegas on Jan. 6. The super-action hero movie director missed a line in his speech and didn't spring into action for 30 seconds. When Bay did finally heed to call, he responded by sprinting off the stage.

Not the kind of guy you'd call to save the world during an Armageddon.

Michael Bay hit the ground running when he started the speech, but he stumbled when the teleprompter's cues disappeared. Bay tried to improvise, but floundered. Joe Stinziano of Samsung America rushed to his aid by throwing softball questions to keep the director flowing, but in thirty seconds it turned into a "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and Bay stuttered an apology and escaped. Bad luck for the director of "Friday the 13th."

To be fair, Michael had good humor about his embarrassing flub and blamed himself. Bay was just too excited about that dang UHD TV. He later explained  "Wow! I just embarrassed myself at CES," he wrote, before explaining what happened. "I was about to speak for Samsung for this awesome Curved 105-inch UHD TV. I rarely lend my name to any products, but this one is just stellar. I got so excited to talk, that I skipped over the Exec VP's intro line and then the teleprompter got lost. Then the prompter went up and down - then I walked off. I guess live shows aren't my thing."

Fret not! Bay knows that when you fall off your horse, you have to immediately get back on. And it is so much better with a Samsung UHD TV. He says "I'm doing a special curved screen experience with Samsung and Transformers 4 footage that will be traveling around the world."
