Kylie Minogue Conquered Cancer Surgery By Treating It Like a Performance; Can She Do the Same on `The Voice?’ Debuts as Judge on Saturday (Video)

Kylie Minogue, the diminutive Australian pop star, is no stranger to battling odds heads on. Kylie has had number one hits in every decade since she started recording and still looks great in a "Skirt". Minogue battled and beat breast cancer. This Saturday, January 11t, Kylie Minogue will judge other singers' battles as she makes her debut on The Voice UK.

The new season of The Voice UK on BBC1 will see new judges Kylie Minogue and Ricky Wilson join legendary singer Tom Jones long-time judge and record-holder of the world's most downloaded single, "I Gotta Feeling" at 8.3 million, will.i.am. Kylie Minogue is a star who was made for the stage. She even prepared for breast cancer surgery like it was a performance.

Kylie's star power didn't save her from pre-show jitters when she first joined The Voice UK, Kylie revealed: "I was petrified, I was an absolute rabbit in the headlights, thinking what have I got myself into, how long does this go on for, and that stands to reason it's getting used to everything, but then I started to find my feet and you have no option but to really invest in it and be totally exhausted by it actually. You eat, sleep, drink, breathe the show."

Kylie Minogue must have taken a lesson from the courage she showed when she battled breast cancer, after being diagnosed in May 2005. When it finally came time to go under the knife, the long-time stage vet felt like she was getting ready for a show. Kylie's friend Kathy Kette recently told Radio Times magazine the "Skirt" singer confided to her that ''When the cancer was diagnosed and I was going in for surgery, I was lying there on the trolley and I was suddenly taken by the fact that I was going into a theatre. 'Medicine is so different from my business, but in some ways, so similar. The whole gowning up, the masks, the build-up, the adrenaline... It all felt so familiar. 'I was under lights. Ah! There's my spotlight.''

That bravery doesn't stop Kylie from worrying about her live shows. She told British media that ''Even with the 'Fever' tour [in 2002], as proud as I was of that tour, I was still a little uncertain on stage. It probably wasn't until after being ill, coming back onto the road after the 'Showgirl' tour stopped. I certainly wasn't 100 per cent, but by that point I just thought, 'f**k it'. I thought, 'I just can't worry that much, people are enjoying it, I love doing it, so I owe it to myself to try and enjoy it and let go.' In anything you do, the more relaxed you are the better you will be. That's what I try to do.  'Well, that's the idea anyway. I'll still get stressed about a show, but it was around then that I started to accept who I am. This is who I am, this is where I'm good, this is where I'm not so good, this is my voice.''

Kylie turned down an offer to coach The Voice UK during its first season, according to The Guardian. That part went to Jessie J. Kylie, who never has a bad word for anyone says Jessie J did a "great job especially for someone so young."

When asked who was better, Kylie or Jessie J,  both Will.i.am and Tom Jones agreed "You can't compare." As for Kylie, she politely demurs to Jessie J, saying "I can't get in the door as far as my actual voice is concerned. I hope she enjoys the show."

The Voice UK will open its new season with the coaches singing a montage of Kylie's "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" and 'I Predict A Riot.'
