Canucks vs Coyotes live stream: Watch online free 9:10 ET Thursday as these Pacific Division rivals meet for the third time this season.

In the first showdown of the season in Phoenix, the Coyotes (21-16-9) won 3-2 in a shootout vs the Canucks (24-15-9). Last month, they met again in Vancouver, with the Canucks winning 3-2 in overtime.

The Coyotes, who had Wednesday off, limited St. Louis to two shots in the third period and 18 in the game against Mike Smith. Despite that, Phoenix lost its fourth consecutive game, losing 2-1.

"I thought he was solid," Tippett said of his starting goaltender. "I thought we were solid in front of him, too. We gave up a few chances early but after that, we were pretty solid. It has to be a group effort if you're going to be successful. Your goaltender needs to play well, but we have to play well in front of him."

After allowing five goals on Monday, Smith stepped it up in the 2-1 loss and impressed his head coach.

"I thought he was solid," Tippett told ESPN.com. "I thought we were solid in front of him, too. We gave up a few chances early but after that, we were pretty solid. That's what we need. It has to be a group effort if you're going to be successful. Your goaltender needs to play well, but we have to play well in front of him."

Eddie Lack is the projected started for the game, despite allowing three goals on 13 shots in what ended up being a 9-1 loss vs the Ducks last night. His replacement, Joacim Eriksson made his NHL debut and gave up six goals in net.

"It does me no good, it does the players no good to discuss anything that happened here," Vancouver coach John Tortorella said. "The biggest thing for us is we just need to get out of here and get ready for our next game."
