Samsung Galaxy S2 Reviews, Update: Specs Of 2011 Flagship May Remain Outdated For Good, Device Not Expected To Get Official Updates From Samsung

Samsung Galaxy S2 reviews, update: Specs of the 2011 flagship has been impressive for its time, but the device that was instrumental in making Samsung a competitive handset maker and possible iPhone-killer will not be getting anymore updates from the South Korean tech giant this year.

According to Phone Arena, Samsung Galaxy S2 is the sequel to the critically-acclaimed Samsung Galaxy S Android smartphone. When it was launched the S2 came with Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, and a larger 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Display. With the Galaxy S2, the camera was upgraded to 8MP and adds an LED flash to it. It also has 1080P recording.

The device is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core chipset. Some of the advantages of the unit include a high-resolution camera, dual-core processor, 1GB RAM and fast mobile data support (as it runs on 4G). The dimensions of this unit is small at 4.93 x 2.60 x 0.33 inches.

Samsung Galaxy S2’s dimensions though is practically no match to the current roster of Android-powered devices available. Nonetheless, despite it being practically obsolete, there still seems to be a following for the device. Recently, the S2 Plus was spotted sporting an Android 4.4.2 Custom ROM. This shows that developers still show much interest on the unit.

In a 2012 review by CNET, it noted that the Samsung Galaxy S2 4G edition sports a large and vivid 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display. It’s also powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz processor. The device runs on Android 4.0 and is 4G-capable. The camera quality of the unit is also very excellent.

On the negative end of things, the tech site said that the S2 could have better call quality and that the device is large and has a plastic build.

The unit itself, though it has an attractive design is still seemingly expensive, especially when cheaper and newer devices in the market are available. A quick look at Amazon shows that the Samsung Galaxy S2 SA-19100 variant’s unlocked model is priced at $273.

Compare this to both the Moto G and Nokia Lumia 525, which were released the past two months and sports their latest OS platforms, and priced at less than $200, the Samsung Galaxy S2 is pricey.
