Star Trek 3 Release Date Is Set For 2016 During The Film’s 50th Anniversary – J.J. Abrams Mum About The Film’s New Director

Star Trek 3 release date will be on the 50th anniversary of the series. At least that's what the new writers of the highly anticipated sequel is aiming for.

With both "Attack the Block" director Joe Cornish and former producer and co-writer Alex Kurtzman officially out of the project, Star Trek 3 has announced that the two newbie writers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will co-write the project with veteran Roberto Orci.

However, Joe Cornish's replacement is yet to be announced. During a talk with TCA Press Tour for NBC's new TV project "Believe," J.J. Abrams dismisses questions about the upcoming movie's new director.

Alex Kurtzman announced that he will be dropping out from the movie due to a number of projects that he's committed to do at the moment. While another writer who co-wrote the script of the Star Trek Into Darkness movie, Damon Lindelof will not be returning as well.

Hollywood Reporter first brought in the news about the Star Trek 3 Release date and the new writers replacing Kurtzman:

"The duo will join Roberto Orci, who co-wrote the first two installments of the reboot with partner Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof. Orci is working without Kurtzman on this one.

The next Star Trek film is untitled and unscheduled, but Paramount and Skydance are hoping to have a film in time for the franchise to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2016. Stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana are expected to return."

With the new writers, coming in to write the script could this mean that Star Trek 3 is in good hands, considering the fact that Star Trek Into Darkness was considered the worst movie in the sci-fi franchise.

Well that is something fans could always look forward to.
