Jack Reacher Sequel News: ‘Mission Impossible 5’ Star Tom Cruise Will Be Back To Reprise His Role Based On Lee Child’s Novel ‘Never Go Back’

Mission Impossible 5 cast Tom Cruise is set to reprise his role in Lee Child's novel 'Never Go Back' for a Jack Reacher sequel from the surprise hit film back in 2012.

Jack Reacher sequel will be based on the Lee Child's novel "Never Go Back," wherein Reacher is being accused of homicide and fathering a child with a women he barely even remember.

Amazon posts an official synopsis of the novel saying:

"After an epic and interrupted journey all the way from the snows of South Dakota, Jack Reacher has finally made it to Virginia. His destination: a sturdy stone building a short bus ride from Washington D.C., the headquarters of his old unit, the 110th MP. It was the closest thing to a home he ever had. Why? He wants to meet the new commanding officer, Major Susan Turner. He liked her voice on the phone. But the officer sitting behind Reacher's old desk isn't a woman. Why is Susan Turner not there?"

However, Tom Cruise is yet to set forth with the filming of the "Jack Reacher 2" despite Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions officially announcing his return for the sequel, because of his obligations with the upcoming 5th installment of "Mission Impossible."

Mission Impossible 5, directed by the "Jack Reacher" director Christopher McQuarrie, who will not be returning in the sequel because of his busy schedule, is set to hit theaters a week after the release of "Star Wars Episode 7," which will be on the 18th of December.

Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) will be responsible for the screenplay of the action-filled movie, while J.J Abrams who's been a veteran with the Mission Impossible franchise since directing and co-writing Mission Impossible 3 will be producing it.
