Now that Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster has been released in Japan, much attention is focused on the rumored potential sequel hinted at in the epilogue.

As some fans know, the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster release also includes a 30-minute audio drama epilogue, which gives fans a picture of life after X-2.

According to Kotaku, the epilogue features two new characters Huami and Kurgum, members of the new Spiran Council tasked to convince Yuna to help resolve a problem in the Farplane.

Through this adventure, Chuami and Kurgum encounter many of the main cast characters in Final Fantasy X and X-2, and the epilogue deals with the issue of love and living in a new world without Sin.

Recently, scenario writer Kazushige Nojima suggested that a sequel to Final Fantasy X and X-2 could happen, and looking at the story explored long after the games, there is plenty of material.

"If there's enough demand, then we may possibly see new developments," he said according to Siliconera. "I would personally like to see a sequel like X-3."

Nojima is also the author behind a Final Fantasy X-2.5 book release which is set a year after the events of Final Fantasy X-2, according to Square Portal.

Unfortunately, an embarrassing mix-up with the release of the light novel has confused fans, as Square Enix reportedly released fanfiction instead of Nojima's work.

“I needed inspiration for the Final Fantasy X-2.5 novel so I turned to some fanfiction I had read a few months ago,” wrote Nojima according to p4rgaming.

“It turns out that I accidentally sent a fanfiction I was reading to the publishing team instead of the novel because I must have confused the two at some point. Honestly, it is very hard to distinguish between fanfiction and my official Final Fantasy novels because I think these fanfiction writers are very talented much like myself.”

So, there in fact may be too much potential story for the Final Fantasy X universe.
