Nadal Vs Federer - No.1 Player Breaking The Rules? Swiss Legend Complains About Excess Noise And Rest Times By The Spaniard! Calls For Fair Officiating

A Nadal Vs Federer match was granted, albeit in the semifinals. Nevertheless, it was a classic and not without controversy. Roger Federer calls for fair treatment in light of Nadal's 'free pass.'

The ATP no.1 player eventually lost to another Swiss player, Stanislas Wawrinka. The final score was 6-3 6-2 3-6 6-3. The Spaniard was battling back problems and was on the brink of walking off the court in the second set, but fought on in what could only be described as a gallant effort. From Pat Cash of BBC Sports Radio:

"Nadal could have easily walked off court but he didn't and it added to the match. I was impressed at how Wawrinka had the mental capacity to finish off the match. For a while it looked like he was getting nervous, tired, missing easy shots and screaming at his team. It is hard to beat an injured player, especially an injured Rafa. To beat a Rafa at 60% is not easy. It was a fantastic gutsy effort from both of them."

The lingering story of the tournament was Federer's comments. Like a true sportsman, he admitted defeat and was not making excuses, but he had to bring up valid points:

Federer spoke with The Daily Mail. On Nadal's 'inconsistent grunting' King Rog was asked if he got distracted: "Not when he does it every point, but it goes in phases, one point he does and one point he doesn't, that's what I was complaining about."

On the excess time that Nadal takes between points (the norm is 20 seconds): "Rafa is doing a much better job than he used to, I'm not complaining much about the time but I think I've played him 33 times and he's got two points penalties over the course of our rivalry."

Federer gives his speech: "You either have rules or you don't. If you don't have rules it's fine, everybody can do what they want to do. It's important to enforce the rules on all levels, don't give me or Djokovic a free pass because of who we are.

We should all be judged the same way, not just a guy on court 16, who you can give a time violation to just because you can.

On centre court they're always going to be afraid to take those decisions. I don't want to go and complain all the time, I never do. I just hope they do their job correctly. Sometimes you've just go to say things."
