Yuna Kim Skips Four Continents As Ashley Wagner Changes Free Program: Mirai Nagasu Not Retiring After 2014 Sochi Olympics?

As the 2014 Sochi Olympics looms closer, news regarding some of the most talked-about figure skaters is still coming in.

Firstly, the 2014 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships has just occurred, and while Yuna Kim did not compete there, her younger compatriots showed up with favorable results.

Kim Hae-Jin placed sixth overall with 166.84, while Park So-Yeon placed ninth with 162.71. Both will be going to the 2014 Sochi Olympics due to Yuna Kim earning South Korea three spots from the 2013 World Figure Skating Championships.

Some are surprised Yuna Kim did not take the opportunity to compete her programs one last time before the Olympics, but perhaps the reigning Olympic champion is saving her stamina.

And as Yuna Kim prepares for her showdown with Mao Asada, American figure skater Ashley Wagner is making some last-minute changes after a controversial U.S. Nationals performance.

According to Team USA, Ashley Wagner will be going back to her free skating program from last season, "Samson and Delilah," and ditching her current "Romeo & Juliet" program.

“I wasn’t able to connect very well with it, and I think because I was uncomfortable with it, it made it very difficult to compete,” said Wagner.

“Going into the Olympics, I want to feel as comfortable and confident on the ice as I possibly can. I’ve been really happy with how the (new) program is going in training, and it feels great.”

Reportedly, Ashley Wagner will incorporate "bits and pieces" of the new program into the "Samson and Delilah."

After placing fourth below Mirai Nagasu, Ashley Wagner revealed that it was Nagasu's own words that lifted her spirits.

“The comment that really pushed me through all this came from Mirai. Through all of this (she) has been really phenomenal, and the way she handled this, I really admire her for that. She texted me on Sunday after I was placed on the team, and she said to me … ‘You belong on the team. Good luck. Love you.’ And that was all I really needed to feel alright about this.”

Despite the kind words, Mirai Nagasu is not taking her displacement from the Olympic and world team lightly.

"Not being selected to this year's team was devastating and I remain confused by U.S. Figure Skating's decision to not select me to the 2014 Olympic or world teams," Nagasu wrote according to USA Today.

"Once I have time to fully process the impact of these decisions, I do know it will renew a fire inside of me. My Olympic journey does not end here."
