Muppet Police Sketch Nabs Suspect; Viral Mockery Does Not Hinder Justice; No, It Wasn’t `Evil Bert’

A "Muppet police sketch" that was mocked on social networks all over the Internet led to an arrest. The "Muppet police sketch" went viral. And no, the sketch wasn't the work of the "Bert Is Evil" creator Dino Ignacio.

Deputy Jeff Springer with the Lamar County Sheriff's Department said the man who looked like a Muppet in a police sketch has been arrested.

The "Muppet police sketch" was actually a police sketch that was put out in Texas. The sketch went viral because the suspect in the drawing looked more like a Muppet than a person. But the Muppet police sketch did its job. Someone recognized the muppetman and it helped police nab a suspect earlier this week in Texas.

The Muppet police sketch was done after a 77-year-old woman and her 57-year-old daughter were robbed at knifepoint in broad daylight. The Muppet police sketch was done by a forensic artist based on the description he got from two unidentified victims.

Two weeks ago, the Lamar County Sheriff's Department released a sketch of a suspect wanted for robbing two women at knife-point on Jan. 16 in Paris, Texas. As soon as the police sketch went up it drew laughs all over the Internet for its resemblance to a Muppet. A Paris police officer noticed a similarity between the man in the sketch and a suspect.

Springer said "He started to try and hide his identity after he saw the sketch in the papers and even had the tattoo on his neck covered up with another design in an attempt to mask it."

The Houston Chronicle reported Jeff Springer said Glenn Edwin Rundles, 32, was arrested on Jan. 28 for allegedly robbing two women at knifepoint on Jan. 16, in Paris, Texas.

Glenn Edwin Rundles is charged with aggravated robbery, indecent exposure, burglary of a habitation, criminal mischief and evading arrest. eParis Extra.com reported Rundles tried to escape from the police when they were serving him a second warrant. Rundles had been arrested and bonded out on unrelated charges on Jan. 23. Rundles bond is set at $135,000.
