Dell Venue 8 vs. iPad Mini 2: Specs of these small screen tablets are compared in this review, both of which deliver value in their own respective capacity. As expected, Apple’s tablet is premium-priced compared to the Dell Venue 8, but it does deliver in ecosystem and design.

The Dell Venue 8, on the other hand, aside from its affordable price, sports the functionality that its larger brother, the Dell Venue 11, possesses and an ability to become a productive workstation wherever you go. Check out this review and decide

Hardware Comparison
The Venue 8 Pro has an 8-inch display, which is bigger than the 7.9 inches you get on the iPad mini. It is also 0.87 pounds heavier than the mini. It has an impressive 1280 by 800 pixels display which gives stunningly sharp images and video. The visuals however are nothing compared to those of the Retina display on the iPad mini.

When it comes to portability, the iPad mini wins with its 7.9-inch display and 0.73 pound weight. Thanks to the new Retina displays, when viewing from a normal distance, you will not be able to see and individual pixels.

Performance
The Venue 8 Pro comes with a 1.8GHz quad-core Intel Atom processor. The processor is backed up by 2GB of RAM and inbuilt storage capacity of up to 32GB. The iPad mini is practically the same as the iPad Air if you do not consider its smaller size. This automatically means that you will be getting a more powerful tablet than the Venue 8 Pro. The tablet comes with an A7 processor from Apple. Thanks to its 64-bit chipset, you are able to quickly check your email and surf the web. Your productivity apps are also launched much faster.

Software
There are not many 8-inch tablets in the market today that can run the full version of Windows 8.1 – the Venue 8 Pro is one of them. If you need specific windows software on your tablet then the Venue 8 Pro is your winner. The tablet even comes ready with Microsoft Office Home. The downside however is that Windows apps were not made to be used on such sized touch screens. You may need to invest in a Bluetooth mouse to use with the tablet.

You will have plenty of touch-optimized Windows 8 mobile apps to choose from and they are increasing every day. It goes without saying however that Apple’s App store has way more to offer than Microsoft’s library.

Apple has an alternative to the Microsoft Office called iWork. It comes pre-installed on the iPad Mini with 3 apps that serve as a word processor, a spreadsheet editor and a presentation maker. The Mini runs on iOS7 which has been aesthetically redesigned as well as adding newer features for mobile businessmen.

The Venue 8 Pro is currently being sold in the U.S. for $299 while the iPad Mini goes for $399.
