Sweden escaped Japan with a 1-0 victory to open pool-play in Group B. They followed that with another shutout victory, this time over Germany. They suffered a loss in their last game 3-1 to Russia. The Sweds finished in second place in the group.

Since they finished second, they will play Finland because the Fins finished third in Group A. All four teams from Group A advanced to the quarterfinals while Japan and Germany were eliminated.

Finland lost its opener to USA by a score of 3-1. Then they followed that with a 3-0 loss to Team Canada.

"I always know that when you face the U.S. or Canada, it's going to be 40 or 50 shots," Finland goalie Noora Raty told reporters. Finland will now play a team that only allowed three goals in three games, but played a much weaker schedule. The Winner of this matchup will play USA on Sunday.
