Sweden escaped Japan with a 1-0 victory to open pool-play in Group B. They followed that with another shutout victory, this time over Germany. They suffered a loss in their last game 3-1 to Russia. The Sweds finished in second place in the group.

Since they finished second, they will play Finland because the Fins finished third in Group A. All four teams from Group A advanced to the quarterfinals while Japan and Germany were eliminated.

Finland lost its opener to USA by a score of 3-1. Then they followed that with a 3-0 loss to Team Canada.

"I always know that when you face the U.S. or Canada, it's going to be 40 or 50 shots," Finland goalie Noora Raty told reporters.
