Julia Lipnitskaia Olympic Gold Will Not Beat Tara Lipinski For Youngest Figure Skating Olympian: Russian Hope Prepares To Skate Sochi 2014 Short Program Against Yuna Kim, Mao Asada, And Ashley Wagner

As the ladies individual Olympic event begins, Russian phenom Julia Lipnitskaia will skate her short program today in hopes of earning Olympic gold.

Sadly, despite her youth and talent, she will not best Tara Lipinski for being the youngest ladies Olympic figure skating gold medalist.

So despite her fairly solid chances of getting an Olympic gold, Julia Lipnitskaia will not make her mark in history the same way as 1998 Nagano gold medalist Tara Lipinski.

Today, the ladies short program will begin at 10:00am EST and will end 2:27pm EST.

Julia Lipnitskaia will be the 25th skater out of the30 women competing at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Amongst her chief competitors, reigning Olympic champion Yuna Kim will skate fairly early, at 17th. Lipnitskaia will skate right before 2012 world champion Carolina Kostner.

Ashley Wagner will skate after Kostner, followed by Adelina Sotnikova and Mao Asada, who will skate last.

Be sure to watch the event during the NBC primetime coverage tonight.

For NBC, there is a live stream of the channel which can be accessed here or here (depending on your region, one may be accessible over the other) and through that, fans can watch the figure skating men's Olympic live stream online.

(For those with cable or satellite subscriptions, NBC Olympics Live Extra will be showing the re-play as well.)
