NBA Trade News 2014: Brooklyn Nets Agreed In Principle To Trade Jason Terry To Kings In Principle For Thornton; Lakers Will Be Part Of The Deal, Too

"There's something in the air here that says the Brooklyn #Nets will be champions next year." - This is what Jason Terry said of his new team back in 2013 after being traded by the Boston Celtics together with Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the league's newest franchise.

Fast forward to 2014, to the trade deadline, the veteran guard might not see his dreams of winning a championship with the Nets come true. Not because the Nets are not competitive enough but because it decided to let go of him. According to reports, the Nets has agreed on principle to trade the 2009 Sixth Man of the Year to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Marcus Thornton. The deal also saw the Nets send solid back-up forward Reggie Evans to the California franchise.

The trade news was first reported by Sports Center through their Twitter account.

According to ESPN, Nets' first choice for Terry trade was Jarett Jack of the Cleveland Cavaliers. The deal, however, didn't push through as the Cavs doesn't want Terry.

Experts said that Terry's low salary for this year is what made him an interesting piece for the Kings who are in the middle of salary dumping. Referring to ShamSports.com, Terry is set to make less than $6 million next season as compared to Thornton's $8.5 million.

Terry will not be the last player to move out of the Barclays Arena. According to Marc Stein, Brooklyn is also looking to trade with the Los Angeles Lakers for Jordan Hill. ESPN wrote:

The Nets, sources said, are prepared to complete the deal, despite the fact that adding Hill in this manner will add more than $15 million to this season's payroll and take it beyond the $200 million mark. Sources say the Lakers haven't yet committed to deal him to Brooklyn, and both Phoenix and Dallas have inquired about Hill, according to a league source.
