NBA Trade Rumors: LA Lakers Send Steve Blake To Golden State For Bazemore And Brooks; Warriors Get Back-up Point Guard For Playoffs

One NBA trade rumor has already been confirmed-and this one was short and sweet. Steve Blake of the Los Angeles Lakers is moving to their in-state rivals.

The Golden State Warriors have coveted a capable point guard to back up Stephen Curry, their best player. They suffer when  Curry is off the floor, and it has led them to drop to 8th place in the West despite being billed as a contender at the start of the season.

CBS Sports has the report on this after their columnist Ken Berger confirmed on Twitter. "According to multiple reports and confirmed by CBSSports.com's Ken Berger, the Lakers are trading point guard Steve Blake to the Warriors in exchange for guards Kent Bazemore and MarShon Brooks."

The Warriors made an earlier trade which landed them Marshon Brooks in the hope that he will be the back-up point guard. However, Golden State realized that they needed someone with better control and maturity in the playoffs. Steve Blake was a bright spot with the Lakers when he played. He rarely complains whether he is a starter or a sub. In some games, he has even adjusted to playing the two guard in the injury-riddled Los Angeles Lakers line up.

Blake is predicted to do well with the Warriors because of his affinity with high-scoring, fast offense set ups because he plays for Coach Mike D'Antoni.

For the LA Lakers, they have already accepted that this is a lost season. They just want to make damage control deals, or in other words, dump salary. NBC Pro Basketball explains: "The deal for the Lakers is purely financial.

Bazemore will be a restricted free agent next season if L.A. chooses to extend him the qualifying offer of $1.1 million this summer, while Brooks is unrestricted, and only on the books for $1.2 million this season.

The Lakers aren't a team that has ever made deals that were strictly concerned with saving money, but the way this season has unfolded, along with the more punitive luxury tax system in place under the new collective bargaining agreement makes getting under the tax threshold a priority."

It's a minor trade that fulfills both teams' interests. We have yet to see the anticipated blockbuster trade.
