NBA Trade Rumors: Rajon Rondo Stayed Beyond The Deadline! Was It The Right Decision For The Celtics?

The NBA Trade Rumors have evolved into evaluations at this point. However, it's only two months before the teams who don't make the playoffs end their season. The Boston Celtics are one of them.

Rajon Rondo drew the most interest from other teams, perhaps tied with Kevin Love. The only knack for Kevin Love is that he is linked too much with another team. No matter how he publicly denies it, most people with inside knowledge on the matter have the opinion that it's a foregone conclusion.

Rondo is a bit of a puzzler. There is no clear-cut team that which can claim that Rondo would want to sign with them for the long term after the 2015 season, not even the Boston Celtics themselves. This is why Rondo is worth a shot.

Celtics President/GM Danny Ainge admitted that he would trade Rondo for the right offer. The asking price is steep, and true to his word, he did not trade Rondo for anything less. But will he get better offers next season?

NBA writers stepped up to the plate to discuss this. Did the Celtics make the right decision in keeping Rondo? Should they really hold out for something better?

Most writers say 'Yes.'

Tom Haberstroh, ESPN NBA Insider: "There just wasn't enough time to get fair value. If teams are asked to give up the farm for Rondo, they need to see more than five games of good ball. This is a guy who's turning 28 on Saturday and coming off a career-altering injury. Revisit trades this summer once teams have a better idea of what they're bidding on."

Todd Sunnergren, Hoops 76 Blog: "In Rondo, the Celtics have the very thing the league's other bottom-feeders are feverishly pursuing: a legitimate, albeit flawed, star who's squarely in his prime. They were wise to pass on a reported Chandler Parsons-less offer from Houston. (Pro tip for GMs around the league: If Daryl Morey covets one of your players, you should, too.)"

Preston Schmitt, Bucksketball: "Rondo's value is arguably at an all-time low. He doesn't serve much of a purpose -- present or future -- on a tanking (or per Danny Ainge, "rebuilding") team, so the trade rumors will persist. Boston can get better value for him this offseason."

The last games of the Boston Celtics should be dubbed as the "Rajon Rondo showcase." After the draft lottery, when the first round draft choices are finally given the exact value, some teams would be willing to trade them. As of now, all the non-playoff teams believe they can get the No.1 pick(and theoretically, they can). If they were handed the 12th pick overall, they would be willing to package that.
