‘M Countdown’ To Change The Show For 10 Year Anniversary

Mnet's "M Countdown" is celebrating their 10 year anniversary, and will come back with a restructured program on the 27th.

They will of course reconfigure their ranking selection method, and even the MCs will be going through a major change. Viewers will have a greater opportunity to participate, so that the music chart program can be more relatable to the audience.

The first noticeable change is the introduction of the social media score. The chart rankings will be determined by a score with 50% digital tracks, 10% album sales, 10% social media score (YouTube music video views and SNS buzz), 10% preference score (global fan vote and age rating), 10% broadcast score, and 10% live broadcast text score. This gives viewers a greater participation opportunity in the rankings.

Another important point is the shift in spotlight. Whereas before the show focused only on the number 1 ranking artist, now the show will highlight the top 10 artists. This will broaden the scope of music and reflects the current music trends. As such, the top 10 each have a chance at taking the win.

Although the music program officially announced the restructuring of the show as part of their 10th anniversary plan, it's also because of the rapid changes in the music industry, which is determined by sales. Chief Producer Yoon Shin Hye mentioned that being ranked in the top 10 of any music charts is a great achievement. That's why it's important to widen the spotlight to include the top 10 artists.  She was determined to try different tactics to form a music chart program that is new and unique.
