Arizona Anti-Gay Law Is The ‘Right To Discriminate’ Says A Columnist; Restaurant Comes Up With An Amazing Response

Arizona's Anti-Gay Law is giving people the 'right to discriminate' - this is how CNN's Matthew C. Whitaker describes this new move by the state to clamp down gay activities.

Whitaker, an ASU Foundation professor of history and founding director of the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy at Arizona State University, said that "Arizona set itself up for yet another self-inflicted political wound, international humiliation, costly boycotts and historical shame now that its legislature has passed a bill giving people the right to discriminate."

Over the web and on public places, reactions of the same nature are flooding. On Friday, shortly after the bill was passed, LGBT group Wingspan staged a protest to condemn the lawmakers who signed the bill into law.

"With the express consent of Republicans in this Legislature, many Arizonans will find themselves members of a separate and unequal class under this law because of their sexual orientation. This bill may also open the door to discriminate based on race, familial status, religion, sex, national origin, age or disability," said Anna Tovar, the state senate Democratic minority leader.

The new bill, which the state House of Representatives passed by a 33-27 vote, was lead by Gov. Jan Brewer, a Republican and onetime small business owner who vetoed similar legislation in 2013.

"I think anybody that owns a business can choose who they work with or who they don't work with," Brewer told CNN in Washington on Friday. "But I don't know that it needs to be statutory. In my life and in my businesses, if I don't want to do business or if I don't want to deal with a particular company or person or whatever, I'm not interested. That's America. That's freedom."

With the fact that the anti-gay bill was started by a restaurant owner, it is amazing to see another restaurant stood up to oppose Brewer.

Little Chicago Pizzeria in Tucson responded to the new law in the most clever and amazing fashion. The restaurant posted a photo on its Facebook page saying "We reserve the right to refuse service to Arizona legislators."
