New York won that game during a Texas road trip that was possibly believed to be the group of games that was going to turn around the Knicks (21-35) season. New York will have to welcome in a Dallas team led by Dirk Nowitzki as the 12-time All-Star scored 24 in a 113-102 victory over the Pistons on Saturday with five other Mavericks scoring in double digits. The team totaled 31 assists one day after getting a season-high 39.

"It helps when you're not turning the ball over, plain and simple," guard Vince Carter told the team's official website after Dallas committed 14 turnovers Saturday -- 11 fewer than the season-high 25 while beating the 76ers. "We can score and we get the job done when we're efficient and we take care of the ball. We were just sharing the ball and I think guys were finding the open man. Guys were making shots, but we were just making plays for each other."

Despite losing another heartbreaker on Saturday, coach Mike Woodson isn't ready to give up even though the Knicks lost to a team that had lost eight straight.

"I'm going to keep coaching and I'm going to keep pushing," Woodson told NBA.com. "If it means being naggy or whatever, that's my job. But I've got to get them over the hump, man. I've got to get them over this funk that we're in."

Metta World Peace might not be on the team anymore when tip-off takes place Monday night. The Knicks are expected to buyout his contract, making him a free agent.
