Brooklyn Nets’ Jason Collins Signing Is A Landmark Deal For NBA; What Do Players Think About It?

When Jason Collins announced to the world in May 2013 that he is a gay, amongst his biggest fear was not being able to continue playing in the NBA, or any other league. On February 23, he was able to overcome that fear. The 35-year old veteran was hired again by the Brooklyn Nets, probably one of the most epic signing in NBA history. With that deal, he became the first openly gay player to play in the world's biggest basketball league.

Brooklyn and Collins received praises from people all around the world. They said the two parties were brave and understand the meaning of sport.

What about the player that Collins that will deal with? Is there some discrimination? Here's what they have to say.

First off, his former teammate and current coach Jason Kidd.

"I had the trust factor," said Kidd who played with Collins during New Jersey Nets' hey days. "I trust Mason and (Kirilenko), but I wanted to see if (Collins) was the same guy I knew when I played with him."

For Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant, Collins is just another NBA player.

"I just think about basketball," Durant said. "He's a physical, physical center that plays his tail off for his team. And that's all we should be worried about is just how he plays basketball ... He's been looking for his chance to get in the league and now he's back."

Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat welcomed Collins back but warned about how hard the 7'0 player fouls.

Ethan J. Skolnick of Bleacher Report tweeted:

Dwyane Wade on Jason Collins: "One thing I know about him is he fouled very hard.... Welcome back."

Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers has a more sentimental and deeper view in Collins' 10-day contract with the Nets. Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports wrote:

"There is a kid out there who ... is going to say, 'Jason gave me strength in dark moments to be brave. He gave me courage to step up and accept myself for who I am despite what others might be saying or the public pressures. He gave me strength and bravery to be myself.'"
