5 Reasons We Love CL: K-Pop's Baddest Female

February 26th was not only the day of 2NE1's comeback release CRUSH, but also birthday of the group's leader CL (Lee Chaerin). On a personal level, CL and 2NE1 were my first favorite female K-Pop artists. In an industry that encourages its female artists to display either aegyo or random sexuality, CL has managed to become an ever-changing enigma. Designers such as Jeremy Scott continuously work with CL and her fashion-forwardness has led to an endorsement contract from the global cosmetic brand Maybelline New York.

1. CL is the embodiment of strength in an industry that encourages soft female images.

There is a time and a place for cute concepts and groups who have more members than most fans can remember. However, under CL's leadership, 2NE1 continues to inspire audiences with their dynamic image and encouraging anthems such as I Am The Best. While Lee Hyori may have declared herself to be a Bad Girl, CL is undeniably The Baddest Female.

2. Top celebrities want to become friends with CL.

CL is often pictured with strong male figures from all aspects of entertainment and fashion, not as an arm-candy accessory but in a position of equality. However, CL is not portrayed as being completely unapproachable, which is another device often employed with the concept of female group members.

3. CL is a fierce style maven who is very much the female counterpart to Big Bang's G-Dragon.

The song The Leaders summarizes the artistic synergy that exists between CL and G-Dragon, when the artists collaborate. G-Dragon has featured other artists on his newest releases. However, these collaborations do not seem as natural as those between Big Bang's leader and 2NE1's leader.

4. CL holds her own, as one of the best female rappers in K-Pop.

Beyond exhibiting hip hop style, CL represents YG Entertainment as one of the strongest female rappers currently in K-Pop. When CL takes the stage, it is without question that she can hold own and the rock the mic. During 2011 NOLZA in Japan, CL performed a slightly rated remix of Nicki Minaj's Did It On Em, with Marvin's Room, and The Leaders.

5. With her unique personality and language skills, CL is poised to become one of K-Pop's global icons.

The upcoming 2NE1 album and world tour will be a reflection of the group's continuous hard work. As 2NE1 prepares to embark upon a world tour supporting CRUSH, there will be increased opportunities for the group to gain media exposure in areas such Europe, South America, and The United States. The fluidity of CL's English skills enable the artist to take the reigns in leading 2NE1 during press conferences and promotional activities. Many K-Pop artists are striving to accomplish this task, which CL is very adept at, giving 2NE1 an advantage over many other groups.
