Mao Asada Retirement Uncertain As Yuna Kim Walks Away From Figure Skating: 2014 World Championships Training Begins For Ashley Wagner, Gracie Gold, Adelina Sotnikova, And More!

As the 2014 Sochi Olympics fades away, all attention is being put on the World Figure Skating Championships and the retirement of Yuna Kim and Mao Asada.

Since having a resurging performance at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, Mao Asada has been contradicting her earlier quotes of retiring afterwards.

“First of all, I will try to straighten both my short and free programmes for the world championships,” says Asada according to The Malay Mail Online.

“I will skate with thanks for people around the country. I will then think about it with a calm frame of mind.”

The 'it' Mao Asada is referring to is retirement, and right now the figure skater is "50-50" on the decision.

But one person who is definitely retiring is Yuna Kim, the 2010 gold medalist and 2014 silver medalist.

“A gold medal wasn’t really important to me and being able to perform in the Olympics is meaningful enough. I made no mistake today and I am satisfied. I did everything I could,” says Yuna Kim according to IBTimes.

So, with two world-class figure skaters possibly exiting the stage after the 2014 World Figure Skating Championships, it seems it will be up to the younger generation to tackle the podium.

Currently, figure skaters like Gracie Gold and Ashley Wager are busy doing a post-Olympics media tour, before training sets back in and the 2014 World Figure Skating Championships begins.

Other skaters expected to compete include Sochi gold medalist Adelina Sotnikova and Julia Lipnitskaia.

The 2014 World Figure Skating Championships will take place from March 26 to March 30 at Saitama, Japan.
